A new musical work by sound artist, composer, and choral conductor Kathy Kennedy, Incantata florails, will be premièred at the Reford Gardens on Sunday, August 9. The work will be performed at 2 pm and 4 pm. The performances are free with admission to the Gardens. Featuring 24 female choristers from Chœur Maha, the work is a series of "tableaux vivants" set in several venues within the Gardens. The piece incorporates the botanical names of many of the Gardens’ plants and invites the audience to stroll from one site to the next. A new mode of listening is proposed with this piece. Incorporating concepts such as "soundwalk" and "acoustic ecology," spectators are encouraged to walk while listening to the diversity of spatial mixes that walking brings. Choeur Maha is an innovative women's choir founded and led by Kathy Kennedy since 1991. Their most recent performance was backing up the Barr Brothers at the Montreal Int'l Jazz Festival.
